Former DTH Principal Dancer Donald Williams will teach a classical ballet barre with center exercises for dancers with at least intermediate ballet knowledge.<\/p>\n

DONALD WILLIAMS<\/strong> \u2013 A Chicago native, studied first with Larry Long of the Ruth Page Foundation, then accepted a scholarship to Dance Theatre of Harlem in New York City and subsequently joined the DTH Company.\u00a0 He became a Principal Dancer in 1983 and ended a 27 year company career as Premier Danseur in 2004.<\/p>\n

Known for his versatility, Mr. Williams\u2019 repertoire encompasses Ballet, Jazz, African and Contemporary idioms. His leading roles include Balanchine\u2019s \u201cAllegro Brilliante\u201d, \u201cAgon\u201d, \u201cThe Four Temperaments\u201d and \u201cWho Cares\u201d; Jerome Robbins\u2019 \u201cFancy Free\u201d; Glen Tetley\u2019s \u201cVoluntaries\u201d and \u201cDialogues\u201d; Iago in Jose Limon\u2019s \u201cMoors Pavane\u201d; Baron Samedi in Geoffrey Holders \u201cBanda\u201d. Albrecht in \u201cGiselle\u201d, Siegfried in \u201cSwan Lake\u201d, \u201cLe Corsaire\u201d Pas de Deux, Dwight Rhodens\u2019 \u201cAve Maria\u201d(original cast) and \u201cTwist\u201d.<\/p>\n

As a principal guest artist, Mr. Williams has performed with London\u2019s Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, the International Ballet Festival in Cuba, partnered Cynthia Gregory in the \u201cGala of Stars\u201d in Bilbao, Spain and starred in many international galas. He has worked with Complexions, Dances Patrelle and Fugate\/Bahiri Ballet NY, creating critically acclaimed, original roles with them as well.<\/p>\n

Mr. Williams made his film debut in \u201cThe Cotton Club\u201d and starred in the Emmy nominated \u201cA Streetcar Named Desire\u201d which was broadcast over the PBS series Dance In America, as well as the Peabody Award winning \u201cFirebird\u201d, which was broadcast over PBS in the Kennedy Center Tonight Series. He was also featured in the Motown 30th Anniversary Special as well as numerous other television appearances and commercials.<\/p>\n

In 1998, Mr. Williams made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award winning musical \u201cRagtime\u201d. In 2000, he was principal guest artist in the New York City Ballet\/Dance Theatre of Harlem collaboration for their Diamond Project, dancing the principal roles in Robert Garland and Robert LaFosse\u2019s \u201cTributary\u201d and Balanchine\u2019s \u201cAgon\u201d. He was featured in the national tour of \u201cThe Phantom of the Opera\u201d and most recently with \u201cPhantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular\u201d at the Venetian Resort and Casino until 2012.<\/p>\n

Mr. Williams\u2019 teaching credits include; Company Teacher for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Complexions, Cedar Lake Ensemble, Celine Dion: A New Day, Nevada Ballet Theater and Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater. School Instructor for Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey, Ballet Academy East (NYC), and The Rock Center for Dance (Las Vegas). Guest Teacher for Marymount College, Florida State University and University of Nevada, Las Vegas among others. He is currently the Chevron Master Artist in Residence for New Orleans Ballet Association\u2019s Pre-professional Program. He is also Adjunct Ballet Professor at Tulane University. He was also personal trainer for Keanu Reeves for the film, \u201cDevil\u2019s Advocate\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
